The Automobile Association has been around since 1905, ironically to challenge the police who were perceived to be too aggressive with their new “speed trap “operations. Cyclists and a motorcyclist were employed and from then, it has grown into the largest motoring organization in the UK.
Today it all looks very different to back then, it has grown as the ownership of vehicles grew and was and is a driving force in all things motoring from offering breakdown cover and insurance to road safety and motor sport. So The AA can be seen primarily as a insurance financial organization now and is fully regulated.
Breakdown Services: What “The AA” Offer
As the largest car breakdown service provider, The AA has a complete range of services that will help you and your stricken vehicle, should you find yourself stranded.
AA Roadside Assistance
The Roadside Assistance policy is most basic and cheapest option to buy. From 1/4 of a mile from your home , they will visit your stricken vehicle and attempt to repair there and then at the roadside.
AA At Home
This may not be available as a standalone policy, but more of an “add on”. The AA will visit your vehicle within ¼ of a mile of your home, or even at your driveway to repair.
AA National Recovery
If your vehicle can’t be fixed at the roadside, then it will be transported with up to 7 passengers to a place of your choice (including back home) within the UK Mainland.
